A mistake was made by the authorities of the University of Mumbai (MU) in setting the examination schedule. Some exams of B.Com first and second year have been scheduled to be taken on the same day. The final semester exams have papers of some subjects of both the years clashing on the same day.
The University of Mumbai has allotted the dates of 2nd May 2019 and 3rd May 2019 for exams of the subjects Foundation Course - 2 and Accountancy and Financial Management - 2 respectively. These subjects are of the curriculum of the second semester of B.Com first year. However, the university has also allotted these dates for the fourth-semester exams of B.Com second year for Business Law - 2 and other elective papers. These elective papers include Field Sales Management - 2, Advertising - 2, and Travel and Tourism Management - 2. The timing of these examinations is the same as well, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The overlapping of these examinations is a major concern for those second-year students who did not succeed in clearing the first year exams of these subjects. The university conducts back examinations in which a senior year student. The student has to sit for the exam whenever it is conducted for his or her juniors. The second-year students of MU fear that they might miss the opportunity of clearing the back exams this year as they will not be able to appear for them if they are taken on the same day as their second-year exam.
The Senate members of MUs students’ union called ‘Yuva Sena’ have written to the officials of the university, requesting them to change the exam schedule. They have urged the authorities to look into the matter and take some necessary action as this mistake can damage the career of students.
An official of the University of Mumbai has announced that they will be issuing a revised time table soon.
